Aspen View Counts!

We are excited to announce Friday, November 22 as Aspen View Counts! Our first-ever Division Day of Counting.

Schools will participate in a division-wide activity designed to help students practice their counting skills in a fun and meaningful way. Students could be asked to count anything: blocks, paper clips, buttons, puzzle pieces, books in the library, ceiling tiles, materials in storage rooms, etc.

Being able to efficiently and effectively organize concrete items to see “how many” is fundamental to developing good number sense. Our goal is for Aspen View Counts! to be a fun, engaging and meaningful way to raise awareness about the importance of counting and using hands-on materials to teach Math!

Counting objects is a great way to build math skills, and it can be fun for any age. Here are some easy ways to practice counting at home:

Counting and Matching: Use everyday tasks to practice counting. For example, count plates and utensils when setting the table or count clothes when packing for a trip.

Counting Sets of Items: Practice counting with sets of items like packs of gum or colored pencils. You could even try counting parts of a set, like saying 1 piece of gum is 1/12 of a pack, 2 pieces is 2/12, and so on.

Counting Large Quantities: Get creative and try counting things like the number of noodles in a package!
