National Day for Truth & Reconciliation

National Day for Truth & Reconciliation - September 30, 2021
Posted on 08/30/2021

The Government of Canada has proclaimed September 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day is an important step in the reconciliation process. It provides an opportunity to recognize and commemorate the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools, and to honour their survivors, their families and communities.

Aspen View Public Schools’ 2021-22 School Calendar has been amended to designate Thursday, September 30, 2021 as a non-operational day (no school for students or staff). To ensure that instructional minutes for students are maintained, Thursday, May 19, 2022 has been re-designated as an instructional day (previously designated as a Staff Work Day).

Aspen View Public Schools is committed to providing opportunities for staff, students and the community to develop a greater understanding and appreciation of Indigenous experiences, treaties, agreements, and the history and legacy of residential schools. Appropriate Orange Shirt Day and related activities will be held in schools during the week of September 27-October 1, 2021.
