Computer Science, Coding & Robotics - Dual Credit

Aspen View is offering a Dual Credit opportunity, in partnership with Portage College and the University of Saskatchewan, called Computer Science, Coding and Robotics. Upon completion, students will receive 3 college level credits, and 5 30-level high school credits.

In this course, students will be challenged to learn how Computational Thinking can be used to strengthen their ability to approach problem-solving across many disciplines. Students will gain practical hands-on experience in three main areas:

1. Coding:
Students will learn how to design algorithms and write code of their own!

2. Circuit-building and Microcontrollers:
Students will experiment with a programmable Micro:bit microcontroller, and control a variety of circuits and electronics components through code they create.

3. Robotics Project:
Students will complete 12 project-based assignments. The culminating projects for the course is the construction and programming of an autonomous robot vehicle, which will make decisions on how to act based on how its sensors interpret the environment around it.

Pre-reqs / Co-reqs:
ENGL 20 and MATH 20.

The Cost:
$0. The tuition, materials and textbook costs will be covered by a Dual Credit grant from Alberta Education.

Time Commitments:
Course start date is February 24, 2022.

The course consists of 15 synchronous classes which run Thursday evenings from 6pm-9pm.
