Computer Science, Coding & Robotics - Dual Credit

Computer Science, Coding & Robotics

Aspen View is offering a Dual Credit opportunity, in partnership with Portage College and the University of Saskatchewan, called Computer Science, Coding and Robotics. Upon completion, students will receive 3 college level credits, and up to 7 high school credits. The high school credits are:

1. CSE1110 Structured Programming I
2. CSE1120 Structured Programming II
3. CSE1240 Robotics Programming I
4. CSE2110 Procedural Programming I
5. CSE2120 Data Structures I
6. CSE2240 Robotics Programming II
7. IMF3010 Hardware Software Analysis

In this course, students will be challenged to learn how Computational Thinking can be used to strengthen their ability to approach problem-solving across many disciplines. Students will gain practical hands-on experience in three main areas:

1. Coding:
Students will learn how to design algorithms and write code of their own!

2. Circuit-building and Microcontrollers:
Students will experiment with a programmable Micro:bit microcontroller, and control a variety of circuits and electronics components through code they create.

3. Robotics Project:
Students will complete 12 project-based assignments. The culminating projects for the course is the construction and programming of an autonomous robot vehicle, which will make decisions on how to act based on how its sensors interpret the environment around it.

Pre-reqs / Co-reqs:
ENGL 30 and MATH 30.

The Cost:
$0. The tuition, materials and textbook costs will be covered by a Dual Credit grant from Alberta Education.
